Jennette’s Pier, Nags Head

Jennette’s Pier and the area where the pier is built has quite an interesting history.  In addition to the wind turbines installed as a source of green energy, there was, earlier this year, a wave energy conversion device  deployed about 20 feet deep , just off the end of the pier.  It was designed by Resolute Marine Energy and the project was coordinated by the UNC Coastal Studies Institute to measure wave energy near the shoreline as a possible renewable energy source.

I love the place names of The Outer Banks.  If you’re fascinated with them too, click here  to learn more about their origins.
